Bob Alessio has taught guitar, fiddle, and mandolin at Assabet After Dark since 2004, and Italian since 2013. He has played and sung in folk, country and bluegrass bands. He currently plays in the “Roaring Jelly Contra Dance Band”, “Three Quarter Time” (Waltz Band), and “Amici della Musica Italiana” (Friends of Italian Music). Bob’s ethnic heritage is 100% Italian. All four of his grandparents were born and raised in Alessandria Province in Northern Italy. His mother and father were trilingual, fluent in Piemontese (Italian dialect), Italiano (Standard Italian), and Inglese (English). Bob learned Italian words and phrases while growing up in Western Pennsylvania. And studied Italian extensively at AVCE, Mt. Carmel Italian School (Worcester), and Fitchburg University. Bob has had numerous travels to Italy on both business and pleasure. Bob emceed an Italian Radio Show (“Viva Italia”) on Worcester Area Radio Station WCUW for several years. He maintains contact with his relatives in Torino (Turin).
