What do I do the first night of class?
Class cancellations & snow policyOccasionally due to unforeseen circumstances (snow, power outages, instructor illness, etc.) the Center for Continuing Education must cancel a scheduled class. Cancelled classes are always made up (same day of week and time) by extending the finish date of the course, unless other arrangements are made between the instructor and the class and approved by the Director of Continuing Education. When the day school is cancelled due to snow conditions, evening classes are also cancelled. In the event day classes are not cancelled and the weather worsens, a decision will be made by 4 PM and relayed to the following radio and television stations: WBZ 1030 AM, WBZ TV, WXLO 104.5 FM, WRKO 680 AM,WHDH TV, WCVB TV News, WBUR 90.9 FM, FOX 25 NEWS, & WSRO 1470 AM Holidays (No class dates)There will be no Continuing Education Classes on the following dates unless otherwise indicated
Weekend CoursesIf you are taking a class which meets on a Saturday or a Sunday, please meet the instructor in the front lobby just inside the main entrance. If the Assabet Valley School District cancels all weekend activities due to inclement weather, the cancellation will be broadcast on radio/TV. However, if the Assabet Valley School District does not cancel weekend activities, your instructor may still decide to cancel class. It will be the student’s responsibility to call the instructor on the morning of the class to see if class will be cancelled. (Remember to ask the instructor for his/her phone number on the first day of class). If class is cancelled, the course will be extended one week. Nondiscrimination PolicyThe Center welcomes and admits students of any race, color, religion, handicap, national and ethnic origin and extends all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded and made available to Continuing Education students. Children under the age of eighteen are permitted to register only with the express consent of the Director of Continuing Education and the Instructor. Certificates and Course CreditUnless otherwise specified, all Assabet Continuing Education courses are non-college credit, non-graded courses. Colleges and universities may upon their own discretion issue proficiency credit for course work taken at Assabet. Certificates of proficiency and completion are issued to students enrolled in career training and professional development courses upon successful completion of a course or program. ParkingAdequate parking for students is provided in designated parking areas. The parking lots are well maintained and lit, and patrolled by security police. Please do not park in front of shop doors, or in the circular driveway. Smoke Free SchoolThe Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School is a smoke free school. This includes use of all tobacco products in school buildings and busses, on school grounds, or at off-campus work sites by students, school personnel, and visitors. Books & SuppliesBooks: If a textbook is required for a class, it will be indicated next to the course fee in the course description. The book title, author, publisher and ISBN number of the text can be found on our web page in the course description. After registering, students will need to order their text from an on-line bookstore (i.e. amazon.com) or from a local bookstore (i.e. The Paper Store, Barns & Noble, Borders). Registration FeeThe $5 registration fee is due once per term, per person. This fee is refundable ONLY if your course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. If you register online, the registration fee will be waived. Senior Citizens Discount Those 60 or over may request a discount of 10% off the course fee. This discount MUST be requested at the time of registration and a photocopy of your drivers license must accompany the registration form. TuitionMust be paid in full at time of registration. Payment may be made by check, money order, Master Card, VISA, or cash. The Center for Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment and to make changes in instructors or class schedules due to unforeseen circumstances. Refund PolicyIf you withdraw from a course at least one week before the start date, you will receive a full tuition refund minus a $10 processing fee. No refund will be issued if you withdraw from a class less than one week before the start date. If we cancel a course due to insufficient enrollment, or if a course is filled when we receive your payment, you will be given a full refund. If you withdraw less than one week before the class starts, no refund will be issued, but you will receive a course voucher based on the pro-rated schedule below. A course voucher may be used toward Assabet After Dark courses. Note: The course voucher schedule applies only to classes that meet at least four times.
