6190 - Navigating with GPS

This one-night course reviews navigation concepts, explains the GPS satellite system, covers basic receiver functions, how to select a receiver, and how to navigate using waypoints. Although oriented towards marine navigation, application to land navigation with USGS maps is also included. This course will help you get more from your owner's manual, but is not intended to teach you how to operate a particular GPS receiver. This course was developed jointly between the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons. Attendance limited to 20 per night. Cost of text is $12 and is payable to instructor on the night of class.
