How to become an Appraiser
To become an Auto Damage Appraiser and obtain your Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser License, you need to:
- Complete a 30-hour Board Approved Auto Damage Appraiser course
- Complete a 3-month Apprenticeship under a licensed Board Approved Auto Damage Appraiser
- You will need a Social Security number and proof of citizenship for the State Exam
- Pass the Massachusetts State Exam

If you are interested in a career change or to learn about auto damage appraising, consider this class as the first step of achieving your goal. Although this course is designed to prepare you for the state’s Licensing Board exam it also teaches you about the industry and avenues that are available once you succeed in becoming a licensed appraiser. Whether you would like to be an appraiser for an insurance company or auto repair field, classroom study is the most successful start to this career.
The course study of auto appraising is less challenging for the students who have automobile repair knowledge and are looking to promote themselves in the industry or own a shop. For those who have less experience and are a novice to the industry, class study will be more challenging. In order to be successful you must commit to attending all classes and show a concerted effort of participation in the classroom and home study.
