13SHJ01, 13SHJ02 - Welding Basics
If you ever wanted to try your hand at welding, this hands-on course will teach you the technical and practical knowledge of arc and gas welding and Metallic Inert Gas (MIG) welding in well-equipped work stations.
Topics include:
- safety precautions for cutting and heating
- metal identification and welding techniques
- tricks for removal of broken studs
- welding of stainless steel, aluminum, and other alloys
- demonstration and theory working with TIG and MIG welding
Related classroom work includes joint design, melting points, uses of electrode, and related sciences.
Note: You should have good eyesight and a steady hand. You may bring your own material if you have a project that needs welding. Recommended for those taking auto body. Tuition includes cost of all related welding supplies. Safety glasses and work gloves are required.

13SHJ17 - Custom Auto Airbrushing and Pinstriping
Learn the custom techniques involved in airbrushing and pinstriping for your motorcycle, car, truck, etc. With these basic skills, you will be able to customize your ride with flames, graphics, pinstriping, and other effects. The possibilities are limitless.
Note: Students must have their own airbrush and respirator. If you want to bring in a part, nothing larger than a motorcycle fender or gas tank will be allowed, as space is limited. Most of the basic supplies for group instruction are included in the tuition.
You will start with the basics: layout, masking and preparation, working with stencils, and then progress to basic airbrushing techniques.

13SHJ03, 13SHJ04 Auto Maintenance and Engine Tune-Up Basics
Bring your car to class and learn how to make a wide range of repairs that will save you $45-$100 an hour. This is a small, personalized and loosely-structured workshop designed to let students work on their own cars, at their own pace.
Whether you want to change spark plugs, PCV valves, gas filters, belts, brakes, or shock absorbers or install a new muffler, this is the place to learn. Nightly projects must be able to be completed in a three hour time frame. The emphasis will be on basic theory and diagnosis.

13SHJ07 - Auto Body for the "Do-It-Yourselfer"
Replace a body panel, fix a dent, remove a rust spot, prepare and refinish repaired areas of your vehicle. In this introductory course, taught in the school’s professional quality body shop, you’ll learn the use of special auto body tools, dent removal techniques, patch forming, and plastic and fiberglass fillers. You will also learn paint preparation and refinishing procedures for partial vehicle refinishing. Each night the instructor will rotate from student to student, covering each individual project.
Note: Students will need instructor approval of their project during first class. Come prepared to work. Very limited storage space for immobilized cars. Course fee covers the cost of equipment use and most of the basic supplies, i.e. filler, sandpaper, grinding wheels, welding supplies, etc. Safety glasses are required.

13SHJ06, 13SHJ18 - Crown Molding and Trim
Crown molding and trim can be simple or elaborate, depending on the effect desired, but requires planning, knowledge of measuring tools and techniques, the use of miter saws, and learning the best methods to install it. This course provides beginners with hands-on experience and the understanding of those requirements.
Through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on work, we will discuss the types of typical applications for moldings and the particulars of a home’s architectural style and dimensions, as well as the details of installation.
Note: Tuition includes all crown molding and trim stock for in-class use. Please be prepared to discuss the dimensions and architectural style of the room(s) in which you would like to install crown molding or trim. Students need to bring a tape rule, pencil, note paper, and safety glasses to each class and dress in appropriate shop apparel.

This Home Firearm Safety course is a Massachusetts State Police Certified Course. It covers the basic knowledge and skills necessary for owning, handling, and storing firearms safely.
This course fulfills Massachusetts Firearms Training Requirement LTC-007 and will allow people to apply for their License to Carry (LTC) or their Firearms Identification Card (FID).
Topics include:
- the different types of firearm actions
- the components and firing sequence of ammunition
- how to clean firearms
- loading and unloading firearms with dummy rounds
- safe transportation of firearms
- important parental responsibilities

13SHJ20 - Basic Organic Vegetable Gardening Workshop
Nothing is more satisfying than growing your own vegetables and nothing tastes better than a fresh vegetable picked from your own garden! This workshop will help participants learn basic gardening techniques for creating an at-home organic vegetable garden.
This class will cover:
- how to prep and amend your garden soil for best growing conditions
- how to prepare in-ground, raised-bed gardens and container gardens
- where, what, and when to plant
- starting seeds indoors
- what varieties are best to plant to maximize our short growing season
- how to control weeds and garden pests

13SHJ16 - Interior Decorating with Confidence
Have you procrastinated on beginning a decorating project because you’re just not sure where to begin and not confident in how it will look when finished? Find out how you can give new life to any room in your home. This course will teach you practical and proven interior decorating techniques you can apply to any style room or type of decor. The course will provide a starting point for choosing color, lighting, wall and window treatments, floors, furniture placement, and materials.
You will be encouraged to bring in fabric or paint swatches and snapshots of your room or artwork you want to incorporate into your decorating. The instructor will also have on hand an abundance of material samples, including drapery and upholstery fabrics, carpeting, decorating magazines, catalogs, paint swatches, wallpaper, and more. Here’s your chance to brainstorm and bounce ideas around with a designer and to listen to other students’ ideas.
Topics to be covered include:
- furniture arrangement, harmony, proportion, and scale
- how to bring in new focal points or accentuate existing ones
- color schemes, textures, and pattern blending, how lighting affects color
