cS14CRR01 - Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson's Course: 40 Hours

If you would like to become a licensed real estate salesperson, this course is your first step. Completion of this course will qualify students to sit for the Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson’s Test. Verification of completion will be provided to students by the instructor in the Candidate Guidebook, which also provides all information on how to make an appointment to take the salesperson’s exam. Upon passing the exam, the student will be licensed. For further licensing information, contact the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons at (617) 727-2373.

This nine-week course covers property, property rights, ownership, condominiums, cooperatives, time sharing, leases, options, contracts, deeds, financing, mortgages, brokerage, appraisal, fair housing, consumer protection, and Massachusetts License Law.

Note: Real Estate License examinees must have a valid U.S. Social Security number. Please bring a lunch and beverage to the Saturday class.

gS14CRR02 - Massachusetts Home Inspection License Prep Course

Millions of dollars in residential property is sold daily. As long as there is a demand for housing, there will be a need for qualified Home Inspectors. Who should consider getting a Massachusetts Home Inspector License?  Anyone looking to open his or her own business and especially anyone with a Building Construction Supervisor’s License or a license in one of the building trades (electricians, plumbers or builders).

This 7-week course taught by a Massachusetts Approved Provider includes inspection standards and the basics of conducting a home inspection; how to carry out interior, exterior, and structural inspections; how to analyze heating, plumbing, and electrical systems; and how to market your services and open your own business.

To become a licensed Massachusetts Associate Home Inspector, you must complete a 75 hour course from an approved provider; pass the National Home Inspectors Exam (NHIE); and complete 25 co-supervised home inspections. Candidates for licensure may complete these requirements in any order.

Jim Mushinsky is president of Centsable Inspection in Framingham which provides home inspection education and business tools for home inspectors. Jim is approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Home Inspectors as a Provider of Education and he also provides consulting services and inspections.

aS14CRR03 - Construction Supervisor Unrestricted License Exam Prep Course

Construction and renovation of all one and two family dwellings and all buildings containing less than 35,000 cubic feet of enclosed space must be supervised by a person licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards. To secure this license, a person must 1) be at least 18 years of age; 2) have at least three years of substantial experience in building design or construction; and 3) successfully take a three hour, 60 question open-book examination on the Massachusetts State Building Code and several other related construction regulations. The purpose of this course is to prepare the applicant for taking this examination.

The course focuses on an understanding of the Massachusetts State Building Code for residential and non-residential building construction. Students in this class will be given take-home practice exams each week to help them develop the necessary skills and organization to effectively and quickly find information in the required sections of the building codes.

Students will be expected to work on practice exams and to read 3-4 hours per week, in addition to class time. Required references for this course and the examination are provided by the student. Only the 2009 International Building Code is required for the FIRST NIGHT OF CLASS; the others will be discussed in class:

  • 2009 International Residential Code (IRC)-CMR 780 Eighth Edition ($125.00) with Massachusetts Amendments ($15.00)

Other books may be required during the course.

Dennis Lipka has over thirty years of construction experience and currently serves as the Building Commissioner for the Town of Holden. In addition to the Massachusetts certification as Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner, he is nationally certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Master Code Professional and holds other ICC certifications for residential and commercial construction.
