Dear Prospective Student:
Thank you for inquiring about our Fall 2010 Cosmetology class
scheduled to begin on Monday, September 20, 2010. Classes meet 4
evenings per week, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM.
This is a 1,000 hour program.
Assabet’s reputation for quality cosmetology instruction is second
to none. We have a near 100% passing rate for students taking the
state board exams. In addition, Assabet has been able to place
virtually everyone who wishes to work after graduation. At
Assabet you’ll get plenty of hands on clinic experience, plus hear
guest speakers, see product demonstrations and become a confident
and experienced cosmetologist. Above everything else, you’ll have
instructors who take a personal interest in you as an individual
with individual needs.
If you compare Assabet’s Cosmetology program to other schools you
will discover that dollar for dollar you will get a better value at
Assabet than at any other school. For the Fall 2010 semester, the
cost will be $5,500 (Non-refundable registration fee: $100; Non-refundable Kit &
Text fee: $500; Tuition: $4,900). In addition, students are
responsible for purchasing their uniform: professional attire
consisting of solid color white shirt and black pants (no athletic
wear or jeans), solid color white or black shoes or sneakers (no
open-toed footwear) and a stylist’s smock. The smock will be
available for purchase at Assabet.
1. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENROLLMENT:
Registration Procedure: To be admitted to the Fall 2010 Cosmetology
class you must complete the enclosed
Admissions Application
completely and mail it back to us along with the
Payment Plan
Contract and the $100 non-refundable registration fee. This fee
guarantees you a seat in the class. It is not an additional fee.
The $100 will be applied toward the total cost of the program which is
$5,500.
Before you start class, you must pay a minimum total of $2,000
toward the $5,500 cost. This $2,000 fee must be paid by
September 13, 2010. Note: If you have already paid the $100
registration fee, you will need an additional $1,900 by September 13.
During the first two weeks of class, you will be given a
cosmetology kit and textbooks. These items are non-returnable and
non-refundable.
2. PAYMENT PLANS:
There are three different payment plans available for paying for
the Cosmetology program. Please read each of these payment
options carefully, choose the payment plan you’d like to follow and
then complete the payment plan contract.
-
Option A: Pay the entire tuition and fees by September 13, 2010
and receive a 10% discount of $550 (total cost = $4,950).
-
Option B: Pay a total of $2,000 by September 13, 2010 and pay
the $3,500 balance in 12 semimonthly payments of $290.00.
Payments are due by the 15th and 30th of each month. (Note: your
final payment will be $310.)
-
Option C: There are basically two types of federal financial aid
available — Pell Grants and student loans. Both Pell Grants and
student loans are based on financial need. Pell Grants are federal
educational grants which do not have to be repaid. There are
several types of federal loans — Stafford Loans, Supplemental
Student Loans, Plus & Help Loans. The most common type of loan is
a Stafford Loan (also known as a Guaranteed Student Loan).
Stafford Loans do not accumulate interest while you are in school.
You must begin repaying the loan six months after graduation.
PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING FOR FEDERAL AID FOR COSMETOLOGY:
Fill out the FAFSA form online at
www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Once you have completed the form (FAFSA),
please call Ms. Melissa Couture at (508) 485-9430, extension 1301,
to set up an appointment.
Once Assabet determines that you are eligible for federal financial aid, it
takes several months before you actually begin to receive any funds. However,
you may start class provided you have paid a total of $2,000 towards the total
cost of $5,500 by September 13, 2010. If you have already paid the $100
application fee, you will only need to pay an additional $1,900 by September 13, 2010.
If your federal financial aid will not pay for all of your tuition, you will need to
meet with the Continuing Education Director to arrange a monthly payment plan.
3. ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS/GRADUATION DATE:
The Massachusetts State Board of Cosmetology requires that
students successfully complete 1000 hours of training to sit for
the state board exam. Assabet’s program consists of 1060
hours. Sixty additional hours (12 days) are built into the
program to allow for school cancellations or absences for any
reason, including snow days, sickness, personal days, etc. The
Fall 2010 Cosmetology program starts on September 20, 2010 and
ends on October 20, 2011. Students must have all tuition and fees
paid in full before they can graduate, or before Assabet will
verify attendance and sign state board exam forms.
Students must complete 1000 hours by October 20, 2011 in order to
graduate. Students who have not completed 1000 hours by October 20, 2011
will be given an Incomplete. Students with an Incomplete
must re-apply for admission and will be re-admitted at the
discretion of the school. Students who are accepted for
re-admission will be required to pay for their remaining hours in
entirety at the rate of $5 per hour before re-admittance.
Note: Upon completion of 750 hours, students in good standing will
be entitled to participate in our “Job-Sharing” program and attain
hands-on experience in area salons.
